GEORGIA PEACH WORLD, FOR THE LOVE OF PEACHES

Georgia peaches are a summer time staple for us, and nowhere is a better place to stop and shop than a generations old family owned and operated roadside stand just off of I-95 in either direction.  If you find yourself passing through on Interstate 95, about 20 miles north of the St. Simon’s exit, there is a sweet spot known as Townsend, Georgia, home to Georgia Peach World. Stop, and you'll anything like us, you'll be glad you did.

It took 4000 years for the peach to make its way from Persia to the Continental US, but only a short time for the Peach State to claim it as their own. Georgia is third in peach production in the US, and it’s peaches are arguable the sweetest, juiciest, and most flavorful to be found. We just brought a heaping bag home and got busy in the kitchen making all kinds of sweet snacks. These peaches are come-as-you-are. Nothing fancy required. Just peel if you want, slice if you want, or take a huge bite - just have napkins or a hose pipe nearby.
I put together this big fresh fruit salad for the covered dish luncheon at church on Sunday. It was full of fresh peaches, blueberries, strawberries, kiwi, and (canned) mandarin oranges. Colorful. Flavorful. No dressing required.
We had a few peaches left in the bin, so my lemonade-lovers asked that we use them to whip up a batch of Peach Lemonade Slushies this afternoon. These took slightly more effort, but were still super simple. Read how to make this delicious treat here.

The children and I will be experimenting with germinating peach seeds this winter, so I cleaned each of the peach pits and laid them all out to dry on the kitchen counter.  Wouldn’t it be fabulous to grow these sweet Georgia peaches right here in my own back yard? Who knows, maybe in a few years we can grow enough peaches to make Peach Lemonade Slushies straight from our own backyard. And if not, there’s always Georgia Peach World.
How do you like your peaches? As always, if you have a favorite recipe or ideas, please feel free to share them here. Until then, I'll be sipping slushies and soaking in summer. I hope you do the same. Enjoy!
