8 Events Happening Here Next Week (Feb 20-28)

We have enjoyed this beautiful snow and all the fun we've had playing in it, but after being home for four days, I am ready to get back to the land of the living. There is much to do, from live theatre to fundraisers, fashion shows, even fried catfish. I hope you didn't spend your last dollar on milk and bread earlier this week, because there are tickets to be purchased and fun to be had.
1.  February 20-March 1 2015, Halifax County Little Theatre presents “Over the River and Through the Woods” at the Prizery in South Boston, Virginia. This heartwarming, yet funny play is all about quirky family drama, love, and that delicate balance between finding love, finding independence, and finding yourself.  "Over the River and Through the Woods" opens this Friday night at the Prizery, and runs for 7 shows over the next two weekends. 2.  Friday, February 20, Open Mic Night at Spare Times Grill. Come out and support your favorite local artists and the one venue in South Boston that provides that outlet. Friday, February 20 at 8 pm. Here's a list of some of the acts that have committed to play: Brad Young, Moonshine Son, 7 Miles South, Smith & Co., Double Shot Acoustic, Cheap Thrills, Serenity, Copperhead, Chris Fisher, River City Rousers, Safety Meeting, The Temporaries, The Dynamo Humm, Sammy Garcia, Darkside, Meow Mix on Tap. 3.  Saturday, February 28, The 2015 SoVA Winter Wine Fest. (This was originally to be held February 21, but was rescheduled due to snow and will now be Feb 28.) TheSoVA Winter Wine Fest returns on Saturday, February 21st from 11am - 5pm inside The Danville Community Market at The Crossing on The Dan located at 629 Craghead St. Danville, Virginia. This year's event will include wines from Virginia Farm Wineries including: White Oak Mountain Meadery, Greenwood Vineyards, Hickory Hill Vineyards, Sans Soucy Vineyards, Bright Meadows Farm, Hunting Creek Vineyards, The Homeplace Vineyard, DeVault Family Vineyards, Brooks Mill Winery, and Tomahawk Mill.
Specialty vendors will include Smith Mountain Lake Alpacas, Flash Photo Booth, Bittersweet Herb Farm, Stacy's Sweet Spot,Swan Forge, Honduras Coffee Co., Oma’s Kettle Korn, Bull City Cigars, Engrained in Wood, Hops & Nuts, Silpada, and more! Food will be available for purchase and prepared by local eateries including Chathamooca, BLicous, and Oma's Kettle Korn. Limited Advanced Tickets are available online at: http://www.sovawinetrail.com/festival and at local supporters including ChathaMooCa Main St. Chatham, Drug Store Grill Main St. Brookneal, Ben David Jewelers SOLD OUT, Karen's Hallmark Shop in The Danville Mall, SOLD OUT Virginia Cap & Cork Danville, and 2 Witches Winery & Brewing Co. Danville. General Admission: $20, Designated Drivers: 16 and Up $10, Under 16 Free with accompanying adult admission. In case of inclement weather, tickets will be valid for snow date the following weekend.
4.  Saturday, February 28, Prizery Summer Theatre Auditions It's official! Summer Theatre 2015 is The Wizard of Oz and Anything Goes! Also Aladdin Jr. As a workshop production for students up to 18. Plus a Singer's Showcase! Local auditions for Summer Theatre 2015 are Saturday Feb 28, from 8:30 am until noon for 7 to 18 year olds. College students will audition the same day beginning at 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Please go to the Prizery website for more details. 
5. Saturday, February 28 Burpees for Freedom, hosted by HardTarget Krav Maga and 524 Fitness Community of South Boston. For the second year, Burpees for Freedom will raise awareness and funds, with all proceeds going toward opening a safe house in Halifax County, for girls of all backgrounds and all circumstances that have left them in danger. The Burpees for Freedom event represents everything that its hosts Hard Target Krav Maga and 524 stand for. They invite you to  mark your calendars and join together in a fight for the safety and hope of others who can no longer fight for themselves. 
Last year this event raised over $500, which helped finish building a safe house in India. With the combined efforts of Blessed Hope Halifax and in partnership with Set Them Free International the funds provided for the rescue and care for 26 little girls in that safe house.













6.  Saturday February 28, BAR 119 presents Matt Boswell center stage, DJ J-KRISP in between sets. This weekend come out and join the party with Matt Boswell, a local musician well known for energetic and song packed performances. He will keep the floor filled with all of your favorite country tunes! Some call it traditional country and some say it is more contemporary, but we feel it is somewhere in-between the two. 7.  Saturday, February 28, A fashion show benefit at the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History. Gibson Girl Vintage is beyond honored to present an exciting new selection of vintage apparel at an upcoming fashion show on Sat. February 28, to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters, at the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History! There will be light refreshments, a door prize, and ticket holders are allowed free access to the museum all day. Please join us, spread the word, and help support a great cause!Tickets are $10 and available at the door.
8. The Cluster Springs Volunteer Fire Department Support Group is hosting a Catfish Dinner on Saturday, February 28, at 5pm. Fresh Fried Catfish Fillets, Hush Puppies, Baked Beans, Slaw, Dessert and a drink.  Adult plate $13.00, Child plate $6.00. 
There you have it. Eight good reasons to get out out of the house this week. The parking lots should be good and shoveled by this weekend, so trade in your snow shoes for your kitten heels (they're back, you know) and hopefully I'll see you out and about.
